I had a fantastic opportunity yesterday to sit down for a chat with Jessica Joelle Alexander, author of the popular book The Danish Way of Parenting: What the Happiest People in the World Know About Raising Confident, Capable Kids.
Jessica lives with her husband and two kids in Italy, a country that is very hard hit by the Coronavirus pandemic and has been in official lockdown for over 2 weeks now.
In this conversation Jessica and I talk about:
- how things changed in Italy during the past 3-4 weeks
- how to set routines for kids during school closures
- how to talk about quarantine to little kids
- how to help teens and young adults grasp the gravity of the situation
- how we parents can deal with anxiety
- how to look for silver linings
- and so, so much more!
I hope you find as much value in this chat as I did!

Sumitha, thank you for bringing on such informative guides! Jessica, thank you for sharing your insights. I started with no routine and we are building on it. Thank you both for being here to support us parents!
You are very welcome, Paulla. And thank you right back for this lovely note… it means a lot to us ❤️
For us here in the Austin, TX, “school from home” started this week. And it’s been very much like Jessica said… we started with one thing, but it is morphing into something else that is a lot more relaxed and enjoyable for all.
Good luck to you with your routines!
