Here is a quick preview of Susan Greenland’s talk from the Positive Parenting Conference 2018.

In this talk titled How to Be More Mindful and Take Kids Along on the Ride, Susan and I discuss:

  • What mindfulness is, and why it is important, particularly in the busy lives we lead
  • How mindfulness isn’t necessarily about sitting still and how mindful games can help our kids (and us!) quiet the mind and increase the focus (among other things)
  • Several different mindfulness games we can learn, and then teach our kids!

From Dr. Greenberg’s talk earlier in the research-guided parenting track, we know that mindfulness can be a powerful antidote for stress. In this talk we take it a step further and see how through mindful games we can teach mindfulness skills to our kids starting at a very early age. Whether you already practice mindfulness, or you’re simply curious, this talk is packed with great ideas. Don’t miss it!

In this talk titled How to Keep Our Daughters from Falling Victim to the Perfect Girl Syndrome, Katie and I discuss:

  • How the definition of perfectionism has changed in the recent past
  • How this impacts our kids, in particular, our daughters
  • Several different activities to help our daughters break free for the expectation to be a “Perfect Girl”

If you are a perfectionist, or are seeing signs of perfectionism in your daughter, then you don’t want to miss this talk. While our focus for a big part of the conversation was on how perfectionism impacts our daughters, those of you with sons who may be perfectionists will likely find this talk very helpful as well! (Note: I had some tech issues with this recording, but because the content is so powerful I decided to keep it – I hope the recording quality doesn’t interfere with what you take away from this incredible talk!)

  • Allowances, chores (paid and unpaid), entrepreneurship, investing and so much more!

This is such a packed talk – I can’t believe how much we were able to cover in just 1 hour! Holly was so generous in sharing her ideas and all of them are extremely practical ones that you can start applying in your families right away. Whether you are a pro at personal finance, or struggle with it yourself, I promise you, you will have several “aha” moments during this talk!

Here is a quick preview of Amy Morin’s talk from the Positive Parenting Conference 2018.

In this talk titled How to Be a Mentally Strong Person and Raise Resilient Kids, Amy and I discuss:

  • What mental strength is, and what it isn’t
  • Amy is a psychotherapist and professor, but her interest in this topic is not just academic curiosity. We look at how the adverse circumstances of her life led her to studying this topic
  • Some of Amy’s best tips on what mentally strong people, and parents, do and don’t do

We had a lot of network trouble while recording this call, but I hope that the content of the talk will have you so involved that you won’t notice the video issues 🙂 If it does bother you though, I hope you will simply ignore the video and just listen to the audio anyway because this talk packs quite a punch and I don’t want you to miss it! Amy is an amazing inspiration and I am so grateful to have had the chance to speak with her, tech issues notwithstanding. I hope you take away as much from it as I did!
